Michael Kot is one of the co-founders of Storyline Entertainment. In 2003 he withdrew from the company to concentrate on his job as production executive for History Television. Before moving on, he co-produced and co-directed ‘Shipbreakers” and directed and edited ‘Age of Iron', a short film inspired by ‘Shipbreakers'. Kot subscribes to the belief that a filmmaker can only claim to master his craft after being able to perform each function of the crew. To this end, he has made an effort to become fluid in his various roles as producer, director, writer, cameraman, editor, and soundman -- not to mention cheerleader and coffee-maker. He's even wired edit suites. Actively involved in the creation and launch of History Television, he continues his broadcasting career as a Production Executive at Alliance Atlantis with responsibility for History Television, BBC Canada, BBC Kids, and National Geographic Canada. He gets as much enjoyment helping others make films as he does making them. In 1989 Kot was part of the start-up team for Canada 's all-news network -- CBC Newsworld. Finance clerk to training producer and, later, associate producer. The prefixes soon disappeared and producer Michael Kot became the driving force behind some of Newsworld's early flagship docu-series, including ‘The Passionate Eye with documentary legend Douglas Leiterman and ‘Ideas On Camera' with Max Allen. His creative stamp soon touched other Newsworld series, including ‘Future World' with Evan Solomon and ‘On The Arts' with David Gilmour. He also threw his producing talents at many live specials and event programming. Craving new challenges, he left CBC to pursue New Media and long format documentaries. As a freelancer he produced the first-ever CBC federal election website as well as an experimental VOD news service, PNN. Further pursuing his passion for documentary, he produced and directed ‘Let Freedom Ring' for Rough Cuts and co-produced ‘Aftermath: The Remnants Of War' for the NFB and History TV. Winning over ten international awards and nominated for the prestigious Donald Brittain Award, this thought-provoking documentary on the lasting effects of war will remain relevant for many years to come. Kot attended Queen's University, moving to Toronto after graduation, attending workshop classes at the National Film Board and working with likes of Marushka Stankova and pioneering documentarian Beryl Fox.
